Possible winter get together

Roy and Annie have been working on a Lunch in Florida. Below is their latest.

Annie and I went to the Golden Corral today and asked the manager for the back room for our Motorhome group on Feb 6 at 1:00. He would like us to come back in Jan and remind him and we will. Everyone there are wearing masks and you have to use a paper napkin to use there utensils. They are all available and clearly marked. We told him approximately 4o people would be attending. Safe travels to you and Sharon.

Fmca International

We don't try to spent too much time on editorials, but ---

FMCA international rally fee has been announced at $225. IF NEAR costs over $300, I can't help but be concerned.

October Lunch Highlights

October 11 was our October get together, and we headed for Peppermint’s Restaurant in Avon, NY.  20 of us showed up and many spent two hours talking about the summer and planning for the winter. Nick started us off with a prayer.

National Director, Patty Pritchard described some happenings in the Northeast Area and the National FMCA.

·                     She presented a slate of candidates for the FMCA nominating committee. We voted and elected Jim Duncan from the southeast area.

·                     Chubb Insurance replaced Seven Corners for FMCA Assist Oct 1st. This enables over $300,000 in savings to FMCA and the organizational budget is now a surplus.

·                     Rally’s are planned for Perry, GA and Gillette, WY. Patty plans to attend both. She encourages everyone to write Jon Walker to drop the FMCA dues from $75. This will be voted by the governing board during the July, 2021 Rally.

·                     Right now, NEAR 2021 will probably cost over $300.

For your information

FMCA is upgrading its computer system which means we may not be able to update rosters, officers or access information.

 Attention FMCA Members

Beginning October 1, 2020, FMCA will be migrating to a new internal database. During this time we will not be able to process any transactions or update any member records. Should you need information or have questions about member benefits, the website will still be available, along with FMCA representatives if you prefer to call. The system could be down until October 15, 2020, but we are hopeful we will be back up and running sooner. We thank you for your patience and will continue to provide updates as best we can during this time.

September, 2020 Rally Highlights

September was a chance for officers to show they are not just a bunch of pretty faces as they presented five meals, camp fires and a little fun for the weekend. We couldn’t find a restaurant for dinner. So, we did it ourselves. We followed CDC guidelines hoping to keep everyone healthy. It’s a learning process, but we want to do what’s right.

You helped us to do better and get used to this. We did everything for $7.11 per person. Nice job everyone.

Thank you, Annie, Dave and Cheryl for volunteering for the 2021 nominating committee. They presented a slate of candidates during the rally. All officers are planning to stay next year, including Harold.

Without wagon masters, we don’t need officers. You came forward to fill all rallies for 2021. Thank you for volunteering.

  •   Feb Florida get together – Roy and Annie
  •  May 7-9 (This is the 1st Friday/second Saturday) - Barrager’s and Eggleston’s
  •  June 11-13, Phill White and Dee
  •  July 9-11 – Patty and Brian Pritchard (maybe Harborfest instead)
  • July 23-26 – Harborfest
  •  July 29-31 - NEAR
  •  Aug 13-15 - Patty and Brian Pritchard
  •  Sept 10-12 – Harold Wollaber
  •  Oct – TBD - Lunch

Remember, the chapter has many supplies you can use for a rally – Coffee pots, cups, sweetener, cream, sanitizing items, TENT and more. Ask and you may be surprised.

August 2020 Rally highlights

What a weekend we had at the Linden’s in August. Not only did we have a good turnout, but we had a number of great guests, good weather, past members and some from the Pen-NY Mixers.

Friday, we had breakfast on our own while the rest arrived. Harold was feeling well enough to bring his coach after platelets treatment.

Half of us arrived Thursday. We had BBQ hots and chips for dinner. After, Walt had his usual camp fire.

We talked and after most arrived, we headed for Peppermints for dinner. Using CDC guides, they did well.

Saturday morning, we made pancakes and sausage. Sharon made individual cups of butter and syrup and then we made the rest. We only touched food during prep and it kept folks safe, I hope. Although we are beginners, all went well. We did almost as well for a steak and chicken dinner Saturday night.

It’s a learning process, but we want to do what’s right in the pandemic. Help us to do better and get used to this.

Our guide to handling food during the Pandemic

We may be making meals during a rally. So, we have some guidelines to stay safe during this process.

 ·       Only designated people will be making and serving food. They must wear a mask and gloves while doing it. We will supply gloves.

·       When you approach food tables, please wear a mask.

·       We will be handing out food.

·       We have plates and forks. Otherwise, you use your own utensils.

·       You supply your own drinks.

·       We will have bags of chips to go with hots on Thursday.

·       We will have cups of syrup and margarine to go with pancakes Saturday.

·       Please supply your own chair and table.

Phase 4 guidelines allow groups up to 25. That allows us to be in a group. Generally, if you are really close to someone make sure, he/she is your partner.

July, 2020 Get together

On the weekend of July 9-12, as Livingston County is in “Phase 4” (???), we could now gather in groups of 25. Walt and Beryl Linden organized a return to Genesee Country Campground in Caledonia, NY. Many of us showed up on Thursday and we had dinner in Leroy. Friday, many went to Gunsmoke for dinner while Saturday dinner was from a food truck supplied through Genesee Country. Breakfasts were on our own.

Wilbur and Carol Shafer joined us for dinner Friday while they wait for the registration on their new RV. Steve and Joanne Wyble and their new coach joined us on Saturday and Sunday. John and Judy Loomis are moving back to New York after 14 years in Arizona and joined the chapter. George Worden and Patti Pritchard came for the Saturday meeting.

The weather wasn’t totally cooperative. Thursday and Friday temperatures were 90ish while Saturday the clouds turned loose. Our awning found it could not support 3+ inches of rain in a couple hours. One arm bent and tares ripped the awning.

Thanks, Walt and Beryl

Who Signed the Declaration of Independence

There was one little boy in the teacher’s class who really struggled to learn.
One day the teacher asked him who signed the Declaration of Independence, and of course, he didn’t know.
The teacher asked him every day for a week but still, he couldn’t give the right answer.
Finally, in desperation, she called the boy’s father to come and see her. She said to him, “Your boy won’t tell me who signed the Declaration of Independence.”
The father said to his son, “Come here, boy, and sit down.”
The boy duly did as he was told and then his dad said to him, “Now if you signed that stupid thing, just admit it so we can get out of here.”

Thought for July 4th

WARNING: If you (or someone you’re with) are lighting off fireworks today, do not apply hand sanitizer first! If you do need to use hand sanitizer, give it at least a couple of minutes to dry before lighting anything! This is something to note if you’re BBQing or having a campfire as well…
It's 70% alcohol

June 12-14th get together

Less than 10 to a group

Last weekend, as Governor Cuomo indicated we could get together a little more, Walt and Beryl Linden organized a get together a Genesee Country Campground in Caledonia, NY. Due to Covid-19, activity was limited, but we got together. We limited close groups to less than 10,  wore masks at appropriate times and found a restaurant that had indoor seating. Saturday dinner was from a food truck supplied through Genesee Country.

We had a  chance to discuss the rest of the summer.  We decided the following:

  • Folks were happy last week. So, in July we will return to Genesee Country Campground. You will be working with Tom Roule as wagon master and we hope to have some real rally  activities. Dates July 10-12. We will arrive Thursday (9th).  More will be in the newsletter. Maybe, Genesee will reinstate Sunday breakfast.
  • We decided to forgo 2020 dues. If you haven't paid - don't. Harold keep track. Those who had credit from last year, will get credit for 2021.
  • We then hope to return to Linden's back yard paradise in August.
  • September should be the officers meet.
  • We split to 2 groups to abide by  CDC regulations
  • All your officers have agreed to return in 2020-2021. We will have the election in September. You are welcome to volunteer.
Hope to see you in July.

May Update

We just wanted to update you on the news May 8th. Here's what we know now and what may happen as a result. Our tentative plans are as follows:
  • The May Rally has been cancelled. I would love to wish you mom's "happy Mother's Day" in person. However, Happy Virtual Mothers Day.
  • June Rally. Genesee Country Campground plans to be open June 12-14. Amenities may be minimal, dictated by the Covid-19 requirements and whether requirements have been reduced. Remember - masks and safe distancing and it could be simple.

Our plans are to miss the rally because our first great grand son is due to enter the world at that time.
DO YOU WANT TO HAVE A June RALLY? Please let me know. by responding to this note. (Yes/No)
  • July Harborfest.  There are many reasons to cancel the rally. Most important: Jim Miller has prostate cancer. Coupled with so many attendees that are in the vulnerable groups and some are coming from New York City seems to indicate cancelling. Jim has already secured the campground for 2021. So, we have a plan to postpone the rally until next year. Please keep Jim and Sherry in your thoughts.
Jim plans to refund the rally fee minus $2 to cover stamps, new checks,
Maybe we can think of a small rally, like Genesee Country, if June doesn't fly. Any thoughts?
  • August. Walt Linden is considering a small rally in his back yard. More details as things evolve.
  • September - the officers meet is still on.
  • October - We will determine plans as we see if restaurants are available.
If you have ideas, let me know.

A Message from FMCA regarding digital conferencing

Dear Chapter Officers,
We understand that during this Global Pandemic with COVID-19 your chapter may not be holding regular meetings. We have researched some possible options to help you decide whether to hold your chapter meetings virtually which may be of benefit to you and your chapters.
The definition in the FMCA National Bylaws of a properly called meeting is “an official gathering in one area of its members at which a quorum is present or where some or all of the members communicate with the other members through electronic means such as the Internet or by telephone. All participating members must have the opportunity for simultaneous aural communication. The notice for an electronic meeting will include adequate description of how to participate.”
If your chapter bylaws have been updated to include the option for an electronic meeting that meets the above definition, you may want to do additional research to see which option may suit your chapter’s needs.  Most of these services have a free trial.  We hope that you find a way to either hold a meeting in person using Social Distancing Guidelines, and/or select a virtual meeting option and continue with your chapter’s annual meetings.
There are plenty of options to review.  We’ll get through this stronger than ever before. Some of the services you can review are Free Conference Calling; Go To Meeting; Google Hangouts; Ring Central; Skype; and Zoom.

We wish your chapter well and hope you are staying healthy.

It ain't me

Several members of our chapter have received fraud emails requesting money in the name of our officers.
The email of this person requesting money is:
presidency@rasaurac.com

Checking the web site indicates it can't be found. SAD.
Please be careful about messages you receive indicating they come from me. They are fraud.
You should not receive an email about Fingerlakers from anyone other than officers or:

Self Isolation

We are 11 days into self-isolation and it is really upsetting me to witness my wife standing at the living room window gazing aimlessly into space with tears running down her cheeks.
It breaks my heart to see her like this.  I have thought very hard about how I can cheer her up.
I have even considered letting her in... but rules are rules.

Don't touch your face

Being consistent with the CDC, remember:

If there is a glass of wine in each hand, you can't touch your face.

  • Northeast Area Rally in Essex Junction, VT
  • GLAMA in the Great Lakes in June
  • GEAR in W. VA
  • Most others are in the planning stage.
  • Add to this is our Fingerlakers' May Rally,
I may have missed some, but we want to keep you up to date.
Updates are coming when we have more information.

2020 Rally News

First, the June Rally:
  • John Pangburn was informed by Himrod they're raising the fee for the Conservation Club to $30/night.  A brief poll during the February Florida Dinner indicated that wasn't acceptable. Not wanting to cancel the rally, Walt Linden contacted Genesee Country campground. He was able to book June 12-14, 2020. They make life easy and we can do the rest - especially if you help. I will look into a tour of the Mount Morris Dam for Saturday.
Even though we are returning for a repeat after the May Rally, it's a chance to get together - why we exist.

Obviously, help will be appreciated.

Second, NEAR -
  • YES-there is a Northeast Area Rally. John Traphagen, NEA President informed us he has signed a contract for Essex Junction, VT, on July 10-13.  He said entertainment will include Bob Dylan (Mr Tamborine Man, Blowing in the Wind, etc) and a famous whiskey collection.
Since this is new news, there will be much more to follow.

Third, we need a wagon master for August

Fourth, FMCA International -
  • August 26-29, 2020,  Lincoln, NE
  • Patty may need a substitute

January get together in Florida

Thanks to Dan and Carol Begy, on January 25th, 29 folks from the northeast area gathered for lunch at the Golden Coral a in Lakeland, FL. There were members from Fingerlakers, PenNY Mixers as well as John Traphagen (NEA President), Barbara Smith (past president), Donnie "O" from the Susquenango chapter. Sorry, if I missed including you.

It's good to get together, no matter what the venue. There are FMCA chapters that have monthly lunches - in lieu of rallies.

The restaurant was remodeling, which we didn't know. However, they did a nice job giving us a promised room even though we shared it with another group. Then they pampered us well.
Here are a few pictures.

Alliance RV

For those of us hanging around the Villages north of Orlando, FL may have noticed a change in Wildwood. What used to be Alliance RV is now Lazy Days RV.
Now there are two in Florida, if you haven't been to the one in Tampa.
THIS IS INFORMATION, NOT AN AD.
