September Rally highlights

Hi folks,

Our September rally returned to Cambria and the Volunteer Fire Company. As you know, Harold was not feeling well. He planned to come and go depending on how he felt. Sadly, he did not make it to the rally as he passed away on Thursday afternoon. We lost a good friend, dedicated member and officer.

Not only did we loose Harold, but we lost two more friends: Delores Flick and Wilbur Shafer. AND—there was a memorial ceremony  for Joan Pangburn.  REST IN PEACE TO YOU ALL!

Monday night, Bob Lucey and Roger Flick presented proceeds of the “pound auction” to Harold’s son and nephew, Bill. We got a very nice thank you from Harold’s son.

The rest of us tried to put on a good time. Our officers put out food and a pound auction. Dave Metzger was auctioneer. Bob Lucey put on a number of fun games. He made a “traveling miniature golf course” which we used. FUN!

September was our election of officers and planning for next year. Janet Barager stepped in to replace Harold as treasurer. Thanks, Janet. Barb Eggleston may have been dragged in by me. She reluctantly agreed to remain Secretary. Thank you, Barb. Thanks to the rest who are staying on with us.

September Rally

Our September rally is returning to Cambria and the Volunteer Fire Company. As you know, Harold is not feeling well. He plans to come and go depending on how he feels. Please keep him in your prayers.

This month is our election of officers and planning for next year. Please consider helping.

2022 WILL BE THE GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY OF THE FINGERLAKERS.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO DO?

Friday, August 27, 2021

Gordie Harper's near Newfane, NY

A number of times in the past few years during rallies in Cambria, we ate at Gordie Harper's Bazaar. Was looking at this year --- it's "FOR SALE". $1.3 Million.

We may have to find an alternative.

August Rally - Weather = YUK! (8/23/2021)

As I write this, it's raining again!

Patty Pritchard's father tried to mow the lawn where we might stay and his lawn mower left tracks. Think what 35,000 pound motor home might do.

SO, REGRETTABLY, WE ARE GOING TO CANCEL THE AUGUST RALLY

Those of you who know me, know I believe in the FMCA Mission: GET FOLKS OF SIMILAR INTERESTS TOGETHER AND HAVE FUN.

I am sorry, but COVID, Fred and Henri have different ideas.

See you in Cambria

August Rally Update (8/22/2021, 11 am)

Watching New England Weather - It looks like Henri will come up the Connecticut River and stall over central Vermont.

Those who remember meteorology, know winds circulate counter-clockwise around a storm. That means water gets sucked off the Atlantic and dumped inland. How far - I don't know.

However, it could impact us next week end.

Patty and Brian will make any decisions or changes.

Stay tuned and stay safe.

August Rally

We are planning our August rally in Hannibul, NY. It’s dry camping (=free camp fee!), and lets you exercise your generator. It only costs $25 for the whole weekend. It’s in Patty Pritchard’s parents yard. Details are on the tab above.

Address:

             544 State Route 176

             Hannibal, NY 13074

Property is for sale with:

FREEDOM REAL ESTATE in Hanibal if you want to view it.

However, It has some challenges. As we post this, it has rained for 4 days and Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week don't look good. Patty says the sites are very wet.

Our deadline is August 23rd. However, if weather prevents the fields a place to park our RV, we may have to cancel.

Keep checking here as we will post updates.

July Rally highlights

In July due to Harborfest cancellation, we headed to the available Oswego Speedway Campground. It was a joint rally with NY Centrals and PenNY Mixers. 25 members and guests attended.

Welcome new members:

· Richard and Carolyn Rank

· Lenny and Janice Scarano

· Returning members: Craig and Sharon Sylvester

Our hosts, Rich and Charlotte Burrell, Jim and Sherry Miller, Brian and Patty Pritchard put on a great weekend. We had gifts from the hosts, a fish fry, varied breakfasts and a chicken/pulled pork BBQ.

And…. The hosts returned a profit to chapter.

Great weekend!

Funny but true

Can you imagine a turtle waiting for a light at a cross walk?

A new "turtle crossing" in Jefferson County will protect turtles from the threat of cars. Working in coordination with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, the Jefferson County Highway Department installed the first turtle crossing to help Blanding's turtles, a threatened species of turtle, travel between Chaumont Bay and Lake Ontario and safely avoid oncoming vehicles.

Report from Gillette, WY - 2021

 TO:        FingerLakers members

FROM:   Roz Newton --Temporary Alternate National Director

RE:         FMCA Governing Board Meeting Gillette, WY  July 7, 2021

Here are some highlights of relevant points that chapter members will be interested in knowing:

2020 year was the first year in the last 7 years that FMCA’s income was in the BLACK !  ($7,309 surplus.  Although this may sound low, FMCA is a not-for-profit organization and this amount aligns with how a not-for-profit should look at the end of the year).

The 2022 budget was built upon a $50 yearly membership fee for renewing members. This budget was approved with a quorum of 73% in attendance.  $50 per year membership fee. Excellent!

The following list of FMCA international rallys are already under contract:

*Winter 2022 - Tucson, AZ March 23-26

*Summer 2022 - Lincoln, NE August 24-27

*Winter 2023 - Perry, GA  March 15-18

*Summer 2023 - Gillette, WY August 23-26

*Winter 2025 - Perry, GA March 12-15

*Summer 2025- Gillette, WY July 16-19

*Summer 2027 - Gillette, WY July 14-17

Pending successful negotiations and events in 2022:

 * Winter 2024 - Tucson , AZ  TBA

 *  Summer 2024 - Lincoln, NE

There were noticeable numbers of towables attending with children at Gillette!

Chubb will remain our FMCAssist program provider.

FMCA’s Strategic Plan has not been updated since 2001.  The Strategic Plan serves as the road map for the well-being of the organization. It will be a priority for the Executive Board to work on the development of such a plan.

We need to continue to recruit new members. There remains a concern that about 80% of FMCA members are not represented at the Governing Board meetings.

Our new members of FMCA’s Executive Governing Board are:

*National President -  Rett Porter

* National Sr. Vice P.- Gary Milner

*National Secretary - Kathie Balogh

*National Treasurer - Barbara Smith

These are the highlights of the meeting.  If you have any questions about the governing board meeting, text/call me at 716-499-4263 or drop me an email at RoslinNewton@gmail.com

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your chapter’s Temporary Alternate National Director. I appreciated the $200 stipend.

June Rally Highlights

Just enjoying the weather
We Tried our New Tent!
Oldest operating covered bridge in NY

Old Mill in Truman park

Hopefully, you made it to Pinecreek Campground outside Ithaca, NY for our June rally. Phil White and Dee Hicks brought us to the heart of the waterfalls area around Ithaca.
If you like history, and great natural beauty, we were there. Coupled with Dee and Phil producing SPECTULAR MEALS from Thursday to Sunday, we got to use our new tent, and had great weather. That equals a weekend lucky to have been there.
Thank you Phil and Dee.

Fingerlakers Web Site

We have had a web site in addition to this blog for many years. It has not been used and only contains our roster which was password protected.
The cost of it was going to the point to be prohibitive ($40/month).
Therefore, we have decided to close it down.
This site will stay as long as you provide me fodder. It's free.
